Peak Season: Why is this interesting!?

I was never a big fan of the Laguna Beach or The Hills, but it managed to catch me at certain points to grab my interest. I admit that if nothing else is on CosmoTV that I will sit and flick back and forth between The City and The Hills.. but I cannot get into Peak Season.

I don’t understand the concept. Come watch aspiring alcoholics with nothing else to do in life (especially the Lauren girl who clearly is in the beginning stages of alcoholism.) They sit in their houses eating toast, reading their blackberrys and talking about the same group of guys. The SAME group. All of them. And all of them are getting cheated on. By each other. This is essentially a show about incest, minus they’re not related (that we know of.)

I’m willing to bet the next “scandal” is a pregnancy scare. By one of the girlfriends-being-cheated-on-by-their-loving-boyfriend who both loves them one second and is miserable about the relationship by the next commercial.

Is MTV running out of ideas? Or are we really supposed to be drawn to a bunch of drunk teenagers with no aspiration who just happened to land a spot on television? Let’s recap what The Hills, The City and Peak Season all seem to have in common:

Drum roll.

Teenagers with drinking problems that have too much money and free time. These teenagers also seem to have absolutely zero self-respect and must have parents who have either never heard of television, or are hippies.

Is this what we want to see?

Chic Meets Geek

Tech geeks and society chic’s came together for the first official time at the BRAVO Opera Club’s Fall Membership party presented by Chic Meets Geek and held at Automattic Lounge.

This was quite a party with quite a line-up with big names such as Damon Dunn (Former Dallas Cowboy), Mattin Noblia (Top Chef contestant Las Vegas), Randi Zuckerberg (Facebook), Maurice Ramirez (Chief Photographer of MTV) and Matt Mullenweg (WordPress). And talking about line-up, we had quite one going outside of the venue. I felt slightly bad for the people waiting outside, but then I realized for every great event there’s going to be a line, so my bad feeling quickly subsided.

This was definitely not one of the normal art events. With tech demo’s and the amazing Terri Disley playing it up this was one of those BRAVO events that will not be forgotten. My friend Carol Tran was the amazing organizer for the night and she did a fabulous job blending these groups.

There are usually quite a few events specifically gear for the tech or the socialite crews, but there’s never been one geared to blend these two power players all together. I think this could be the event series to do it and I can’t wait for more of these to come. Because while I love attending both types of events if I could attend one that brings the two together and only have to buy one dress that be the best situation.

A díjat a szerkesztőség nevében Maurer Ferenc, a torna közvetítésének szerkesztője vehette át.

Az U20-as labdarúgó világbajnokság október 16-ai bronzmérkőzésébe, a Magyarország – Costa Rica küzdelembe 1,74 millióan néztek bele, a teljes meccset – a korai kezdési időpont (16.45) dacára – 601 ezren nézték végig.

A magyar csapat meccseit élőben közvetítő telesport.hu-n a bronzéremért folyó küzdelembe összesen 30 ezer egyedi látogató nézett bele, egyszerre 10 ezer néző követte figyelemmel a mérkőzést. Teljes kapacitással dolgozott az online adás hátterét biztosító három videó szerver, kihasználva a maximális 3 Gbyte sávszélességet.

Music Video Round-up

It’s not often I feel the need to write about music videos currently doing the rounds on MTV but there’s just too much weirdness going on out there right now that it’d be downright criminal for me not to pass comment.

First off, Jay Sean. Not since Hype Williams did all that shit with spaceships and futuristic liquid fonts in the 90s for the likes of TLC and Janet Jackson have we seen such a distinctive music video style. Yes ladies and gents, I’m talking about the light streaks that seem to be flowing their way through every music video director’s mind as of late.

When done well this light thing can look quite cool, in Jay Sean’s case it looks like some kid who spends way too much time making LiveJournal layouts has been let loose with Adobe Photoshop brushes.

Another way to use the light streak effect is to highlight body parts/bling. Here’s Jay Sean and his watch, argh – too bright for my eyes!

Woah! Now even his crotch has gone supernova.

Next up is Black Eyed Peas and their new video Meet Me Halfway. I don’t know how much this video cost to make but I’m guessing more than Malawi grosses in a year. Aside from that it also looks like apl.de.ap (that name deserves a separate post altogether) has turned into a Jedi Knight/intergalactic Osama Bin Laden who spends his time chillaxing 2 feet above the lunar surace.

Also:

There’s also another worrying trend emerging in music videos; half-arsed lip syncing. The queen of this is Pixie Lott who looks like she’s having a mild stroke in her new video Cry Me Out. She may as well go through the whole video with her mouth shut and just serve up the occasional light head-nodding to show she’s actually alive. Really I think the future of this will be videos of cryogenically frozen artists with a super-loud, super-bass heavy beat being played over the image of their half-dead corpse. Just so they can look ultra laid back. If you can stomach it, here’s the video:

And finally, best still frame face goes to Lil Wayne:

Rihanna Interview on 20-20

Domestic Violence month was in October but we should not talk about domestic violence only in that month.  Rihanna is coming forward and talking about how the incident with Chris Brown affected her and what she feels she needs to do for young girls who may be in this situation as well.  Chris Brown then went on MTV and did an interview as well about what he is doing after being sentenced.  Listen to both interviews and come to your own conclusions about this difficult and escalating problem occuring in our country.
