Wilson Phillips

Wilson Phillips is an American Pop Trio consisting of singers Chynna Phillips, and sisters Wendy and Carnie Wilson.

All three ladies were childhood friends and all came from musical families.

Wendy and Carnie are the daughters of Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys, while Chynna is the daughter of John and Michelle Phillips of The Mamas & The Papas.

Chynna Phillips was an actress prior to turning to music, and appeared in films such as “Some Kind of Wonderful”, “Say Anything”, “Caddyshack 2″, and “Roxanne: The Prize Pulitzer”.

The group released their self-titled debut album in 1990.

That album garnered the group 5 Grammy Award Nominations.

The album was the best-selling Album in history by an All-Female group.

They have released just 3 Studio Albums in their career.

Their hits have included:

Hold On
The Dream is Still Alive
Impulsive
Release Me
You’re in Love
You Won’t See My Cry
Daniel
Give It Up

“Hold On“, “Release Me“, and “You’re in Love” all reached #1 on the Billboard Top-40 Charts.

Chynna Phillips left the group in 1993 to pursue a solo career. The ladies went their separate ways between 1993-2004.

Carnie Wilson hosted her own talk show, had gastric bypass surgery which resulted in a loss of 150lbs, posed for Playboy, and appeared on shows such as “That 70’s Show” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch”.

Chynna Phillips recorded a solo album, and married and had 3 children with actor William Baldwin.

Wendy Wilson married and had a family, recorded an album with her sister Carnie, and recorded an album with her father Brian Wilson.

Wilson Phillips reunited in 2004 to record their third album, “California“. The group is still together and is putting together new music for an album due out in 2010.

Chynna has also branched out and has an active career in Christian Music.

My wife and I saw them in concert in 1990 when they were first hitting it big on the charts. They opened up for Richard Marx. Marx was real good, but my wife and I both agreed at the time that Wilson Phillips blew him away! They sounded just as good in concert as they do on their singles. If Chynna had not left the group so soon after they got big, who knows how successful they might have become. They should have been HUGE!

What's Spencer Pratt's favorite thing about his wife?

Heidi Montag, the plastic surgery obsessed reality TV/wannabe pop star, underwent 10 cosmetic surgeries in November 2009 (before and after, well… 1st and 2nd surgeries, are above), and has since been prancing around showing off her now triple D breasts, and all her other enhancements (recent pics below).

After all the nipping and tucking, Heidi’s husband, Spencer Pratt, who also stars with her on MTV’s The Hills, was asked to comment on his favorite feature of his wife’s. Rather than going with one of her newly enhanced features, like her butt, breasts or nose, Spencer disclosed that his favorite thing about Heidi’s looks would have to be, “her hair”. Heidi’s over-dyed platinum blonde locks are probably the closest thing to ‘real’ about this girls looks. Poor Heidi, even her husband thinks she looks like an over-processed Barbie. I guess plastic isn’t that fun to play with after all.

SPOILER ALERT: Oh, Reality TV Peeps, Listen to Ice Cube. "Check Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself."

Thanks to the creation of such shows as The Real World, Road Rules, and even Survivor, we have been shoved forcefully…whether we like it OR not… into a WORLD of Reality TV and there appears to be NO end in sight. Although I am a fan of reality programming (namely Survivor, The Amazing Race, Big Brother, etc.), I can’t help, but think…putting a camera in the face of an ordinary person is a SUPER bad idea! Here’s what YEARS of reality TV has taught us…the following crap is SUPER annoying and reality peeps should CEASE and DESIST…immediately.

1. Vote Persuasion and Manipulation: Ok, so most reality shows include the participation of the audience, right? The contestants (singers, dancers, etc.) need OUR votes to continue on with the show and their hopes of being the NEXT…something. But, when will people chillax with their tom foolery during the portion of the show in which Seacrest or whoever is notifying the viewers of the number to call??? Not that I call in, but if I did, your weirdo-tap dance-emblem gestures do not warm my heart….it makes me shudder, groan, sigh, and grr…in that order. It makes me want to vote for the ONE person who doesn’t act a fool.

2. Cliched Interview Sound Bites: I think the MOST common sound bite on any reality show is….”It is what it is.” Flavor Flav doesn’t give you a clock? It is what it is. The Bachelor gives a rose to someone else? It is what it is. You lose the quick fire…horribly? It is what it is. You have to work in teams of two on Project Runway. It is what it is. You just learned on Tool Academy that your partner has cheated on you eight times? It is what it is. So, what are we going to about this ridiculous sound bite? Well, I guess…it is what it is. OK….what does that even MEAN????

3. Avoiding Friendship Initiation: So, it is what it is…not so clear. But, you know what IS super crystal clear? People are NOT on reality TV shows to MAKE FRIENDS….don’t believe me? Check out this montage clip on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w536Alnon24. Can WE pretty please with a cherry on top come up with ANOTHER reason why y’all DON’T come on these shows??

4. Not Knowing the RUSE: With the moving and intelligent third season of Tool Academy just starting, I have to ask myself…when will people learn that you are NOT going to be on a show about BEING AWESOME…they tricked you. Instead, you’re a “tool” and are about to be shamed, embarrassed, and all sorts of other things that are not awesome for the next 10 weeks. In line with that, any show about being the most beautiful person ever…IS actually about being a good person! See True Beauty (ABC), Pretty Wicked (Oxygen), and so on…you’d think these people had never seen a reality TV show before!

5. Pure Delusion: Ahhh, the bread and butter of MOST reality TV, right? The contestants THINK they can sing(Example: My mom says I’m a good singer…uhh, probably means you’re not), dance, cook, design…or the contestants THINK they are amazing, gorgeous, smart…AND, of course, they ALL have to tell us…Russell, I’m talking to you…Boston Rob is in charge…not you. Stop calling yourself King Russell! I mean, seriously. But, who doesn’t enjoy a little William Hung singing “She Bangs” (Shout out to American Idol, Fox, William Hung, and Ricky Martin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Qkas9mlMgE) or a little Pants on the Groun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqGv3BWLqqs)? Ok, this annoying crap can stay…

So what reality TV cliches and annoyances are at the TOP of your list?

Seacrest out…

Audrina Patridge: TV host ...?

Every successful reality TV star has morphed into something else. Think about it, Lauren Conrad is now an author, fashion designer, and style icon. Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt also wrote a book (and Heidi transformed into Babie) and both are darn good fame whores. Plus, Heidi is trying (unsuccessfully) to be a pop star. Nicole Richie went on to become an author and a clothing and jewelry designer. Whitney Port is also a fashion designer, while starring in a spin-off reality series of her own. Kendra Wilkinson married NFL’s Hank Baskett, had a baby, and starred in her own reality show titled Kenda. Paris Hilton has just about every project imaginable on the go (books, beauty, fashion, TV, movies). Bridget Marquardt went from playboy house pet to TV host, of series called Bridget’s Sexy Beaches. Fellow house bunny, Holly Madison, worked as a junior editor at Playboy and also is starring and producing her own reality show called Holly’s World, following her life and work in Las Vegas. Now its time for Audrina Patridge to step into her own thing (she’s already dabbled in acting), and what has she decided to do? Check out this video to find out! No offense Audrina, but you’re already off to a rocky start. Note: all you reality TV writers can do better than this, whatever she’s ready is pretty terrible. At least try to make her sound smart. At least she has a spin-off show coming up mid 2010 (after she’s finished with the sixth season of The Hills) called The Audrina Show. Oh, how interesting that’s going to be…

SO PROUD OF YOU JEFF!

Congrats to my friend Jeff Batchelor on a job well done. Making it to the Olympics is a huge deal, and at 21 years of age, Jeff is now officially an Olympian. Though he didn’t land a run last night, Jeff did Canada proud by wearing a smile and enjoying performing on his home turf. He was cool as always, and Jeff, everyone back home is so proud!

Check out this video of Jeff, just having fun on a board.

Trash TV

I love trashy television. It’s my super-guilty super-pleasure after a long week/day/morning of graduate studies. You might even say it’s a secret rebellion. I’m supposed to understand and even care about crap like Lacan and the male gaze, but in my secret life, I’m a Republican who watches Cheaters. What can I say? I’m complicated.

Besides Cheaters, some of my favorites are:

  • Teen Mom
  • Jersey Shore
  • Trading Spouses/Wife Swap (indistinguishable)
  • I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant
  • Million Dollar Listing
  • Millionaire Matchmaker
  • VH1 dating reality shows (I Love New York, Frank the Entertainer, Tough Love, etc.)
  • Degrassi: The Next Generation
  • 90210 (original only)
  • Split Ends

…and many more. But I think you get the point.

Controle Remoto (13/02)

Em seguida vêm “NCIS”, “NCIS: Los Angeles”, “The biggest loser” e “The good wife”.

‘Fala’ rural

HAITI RELIEF EMERGENCY

Reinforce Actions

CHF Haiti Update, Notes from the field – February 12, 2010

Source: CHF International

Date: 12 Feb 2010

originally appeared on UK Channel 4 in an interview done by reporter Sarah Smith.

Today we want to feature the story of the one of the members of our CHF family – Varnek-Edouard Bazile. Edouard works for CHF and has been assigned to Harris Corporation as their interpreter, local expert, and jack-of-all-trades as they work to improve telecommunications throughout Haiti for CHF and others. Before the earthquake, Edouard was an English teacher in Haiti and on the day of the quake managed to rescue his 20 students with him. He returned to his when the quake hit to see it crumbled with his wife and his children thought to be inside.

For the full interview please visit http://www.channel4.com/news/articles/world/americas/haiti+earthquake+the+lost+families/3508242.

“For most people in Port-au-Prince the sheer challenge of daily life is now difficult to imagine, with 200,000 people feared dead. For one resident, Edouard Bazile, that reality is even more unimaginable. His house collapsed in the 7.0 magnitude earthquake, burying his entire family. He has been speaking to Channel 4 News correspondent Sarah Smith about what happened and how he is now living with overwhelming grief. He described how he managed to pull his wife’s body from the rubble. He then spoke to her in her dying moments. He said: “I looked at her body, her torso was twisted. I said ‘You know I love you, right?’ “She said: ‘Yeah I know, but get me out please’.” He fears his two children, Anniha and Edwin, must also have died in the 7.0 magnitude earthquake but he has yet to locate their bodies. He said: “They are still in the rubble here. I miss my kids dearly.”.

Note from the author: CHF mourns the loss of the families of our staff who have been injured or perished in the earthquake. The tremendous courage and spirit of our staff as they continue to come to work in the face of absolute tragedy inspires us and renews our commitment to helping the Haitian people – not only in the wake of the earthquake but in the long term recovery of the nation.

News from Haiti – Compiled from various reports

* On 9 February, another aftershock (4.0 on the Richter scale) affected Port-au-Prince, causing further damage at the Caribbean Market on Delmas Avenue. Several people were trapped by falling debris and later rescued by US and French Military forces

* The Dominican Republic Humanitarian Country Team completed an inter-agency assessment of the border area. The team estimates that approximately 168,000 internally displaced persons are living along the border on the Haitian side. The majority of them are living with host families. There are some spontaneous settlement sites, such as in Anse-a-Pitre, where there are more than 1,000 people living. Another 400 people are in a spontaneous settlement in Gauthier, very near to the road leading to Port-au-Prince.

* The security situation throughout the country remains stable despite increased reports of insolated incidents, including the looting of one NGO warehouse where Haitian police shot a looter. Security around food distributions remains a concern and requires close coordination between MINUSTAH and humanitarian partners.

* The Government’s state of emergency period is scheduled to expire on Monday 15 February.

LOGISTICS

* A small number of commercial cargo flights have started arriving at Port-au-Prince airport.

* The first civilian passenger flight is scheduled for 19 February.

* Floating docks are being established at the Port-au-Prince port and are expected to raise capacity to a possible 1,500 containers a day. A slot system is now in place for incoming ships.

* A British Naval vessel will be arriving in Port-au-Prince on 18 February with port enhancement equipment and vehicles for use by NGO partners. This ship will be made available for tasking by WFP and the Logistics Cluster to shuttle cargo to ports within Haiti until 15 March.

* The border crossing at Jimani is severely congested. Passage is through a small gate allowing only one vehicle at a time.

* The road between Port-au-Prince and Jacmel suffered significant damage from the earthquake and subsequent aftershocks. Landslides have been cleared and work is ongoing by the Canadian military and MINUSTAH, but many areas remain at risk of landslides once the rainy season begins.

FOOD AND WATSAN

* WFP reports that 1.6 million people have received a two-week ration of rice since the beginning of the food surge operation.

* On February 10, relief agencies distributed emergency food assistance benefiting approximately 170,000 people in metropolitan Port-au-Prince. Since the earthquake, the U.N. World Food Program (WFP) and partners have provided emergency food assistance to more than 2.5 million people, including more than 1.5 million people to date through the 16-site distribution system.

* As of 9 February, the WASH Cluster reports that 911,200 people are being provided with safe drinking water (on the basis of 5 litres per person per day) through water tankering and water treatment in 300 sites across Port-au-Prince, Leogane, and Jacmel. Water coverage is actually greater than this figure as many other mechanisms to access water are now available.

* With a target of 1.1 million persons with 5/l/p/d, the estimated gap is approximately 188,800 persons in need of the minimum coverage.

SHELTER

* Distribution of plastic sheeting for emergency shelter remains a high priority. There are now close to 400,000 plastic sheets in stock and in the pipeline. As of 11 February, over 49,000 tarps have been distributed along with 23,000 family size tents.

* The Petionville spontaneous settlement site (at the golf course) was assessed by a Shelter Cluster team on 9 February and is reported to be one of the most vulnerable sites for epidemics and flooding. The team estimates that 25,000 people are living at the site which is very densely populated. A large number of shelters are on unstable slopes and heavy rains will cause them to slide. Low lying areas are at significant risk of flooding, with the market area most at risk. The team also found insufficient fire breaks with no fire risk mitigation strategy for the site. The team recommended that new sites are identified for families to move to on a voluntary basis.

Pat Benatar

Madonna might have been the most popular female artist of the mid 1980’s onward, but the early 1980’s belonged to Pat Benatar.

Pat Benatar is a Grammy Award winning Singer and one of the best-selling female artists in Music History.

Pat was born Patricia Andrzejewiski in Brooklyn, NY in 1953.

She became Pat Benatar when she married her first husband in the early 1970’s.

Her first Album, “In the Heat of the Night” was released in 1979.

To date, she has released 12 Studio Albums in the course of her career.

Her singles have included:

Heartbreaker
We Live for Love
You Better Run
Hit Me With Your Best Shot
Treat Me Right
Hell is for Children
Fire and Ice
Promises in the Dark
Precious Time
Shadows of the Night
Little Too Late
Looking for a Stranger
Love is a Battlefield
We Belong
Invincible
Ooh Ooh Song
Sex as a Weapon
Le Bel Age
All Fired UpI Need a Lover

Nineteen of her singles have charted in the Billboard Top-40.

Her top singles have been “We Belong” and “Love is a Battlefield“, both of which peaked at #5 on the Billboard Top-40 Charts.

She has won 4 Grammy Awards during her career.

She was nominated for Grammy Awards for Best Female Rock Performance Eight times during the 1980’s.

She has dabbled in acting and has appeared on shows such as “Charmed”, “Dharma and Greg”, and “The Young and the Restless”.

Her video for “You Better Run” was the 2nd video to ever be shown on MTV. It was seen right after “Video Killed the Radio Star” by the Buggles.

She is married to Neil Giraldo, a longtime member of her backing band. He has been her lead guitarist on every album that she has recorded.

She is still actively touring the Country performing her many classic hits.

I was in High School during the early 1980’s at the height of her popularity. At least at my school, at least every other girl in school wanted to look and dress like Pat Benatar. I went to a large school, so that was a lot of girls with short hair and spandex running around. Not that I was complaining.

Music Video Log

The "New" MTV Logo.

This week was a huge step back for those of us who grew up with Music Television (MTV). The cable channel originally set up to feature predominantly music based programming, specifically music videos officially dropped the subtext of “Music Television” from their now-famous logo.

Granted, I personally only had a few years of ‘real’ MTV before the network was, in my opinion corrupted by the influences of reality TV, notably The Real World and Road Rules, which ultimately are, at this point, among the most influential shows of our time, leaving us a legacy of ratings hits ranging from Survivor to The Mole and even the insufferable Jersey Shore that is apparently the new craze on MTV itself.

Fortunately for the next generation of music fans, which I might as well be a part of as well, online video sites, such as YouTube and Vimeo are constantly being flooded with music videos from artists of all levels of fame and genres. These videos are available for free and whenever I want them, so, I am willing to see music television go the way of the Dodo, just as long as the record labels do not stop producing this subgenre of film of which I have much affinity.

There are always new and different videos being released on the Internet, here is a sampling of a few of my most recent favorites.

Jonsi – Go Do

The Icelandic singer (of Sigur Ros) is putting out a solo album (Go), this is the video from the first single, Go Do

The Very Best – Warm Heart of Africa

The interplay between Esau Mwamwaya and Ezra Koenig (of Vampire Weekend) in this video is hysterical.

Toro y Moi – Blessa

For the video for the first single from his new album, Causers of This, Toro y Moi (Chaz Bundick), buzz artist of the moment, creates a dream-like, lap dissolve heavy recreation of a good old fashioned house party. Pay attention to what he is drinking from.

Beach House – Silver Soul

The Baltimore duo presents a rather fantastic hula hoop user in sepia with an intricate use of speed augmentation and fantastic cinematography, very befitting of the song.

...Pop Culture Bites...Pop Culture Bites...Pop Culture Bites...

  • Those Jersey Shore-loving kids at MTV finally got around to taking that whole “Music Television” part off their logo AND they kind of figured out how to make the “M” part disappear too. *sniff* –  The Wrap
  • Jack Bauer will be taking his 24 hours of chaos/drama/hell/terror to the big screen. — Variety
  • Playgirl magazine has been web-only for the past year, until now, thanks to Sarah Palin’s daughter’s baby daddy, Levi Johnston and his, er, assets, which apparently are worthy of actually being printed. — FishbowlNY
  • So the search for Simon’s replacement on “AI” continues…will it be Howard Stern? Tommy Mottola? Guy Oseary? Wouldn’t it make things a lot more interesting if the contenders had to audition on TV/beg America to vote for them? — Radar Online, NY Daily News

MTV morphs...

MTV loses iconic logo’s music video and ‘music television’ tag and replaces with network talent

BY Cristina Kinon
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER 2/9/10

MTV unveils its new logo, with reality stars to replace the music video and ‘music television’ tag.

It’s MTV, minus the “music television.”

The network that launched the video about killing the radio star has redesigned its iconic logo – to take out the music video.

The new look, revealed on-air yesterday, features the original 3-D large “M” with the small, graffiti-style “tv” on the right side. But the new design is expanded, so that photos of MTV talent, including the cast of “Jersey Shore,” “The Buried Life” and “My Life as Liz,” can be seen through it.

And, for the first time in almost 30 years, the logo drops the “music television” tag line altogether.

“We were really thinking about it in terms of having the brand and our talent living in the same space together,” Tina Exarhos, executive vice president of marketing and multiplatform creative projects, told The News.

“If you watch the channel, you’ve seen that it’s definitely going in a new direction,” said Exarhos. “We really wanted to see the logo featured in a new way, and this was really meant to be able to house all the great things that are happening at MTV at any given time.”

Exarhos said the network started thinking about an overall redesign at the end of last year. While other aspects of MTV had evolved, the logo was always something that had stayed the same, and talk of updating it seemed almost blasphemous.

“I’ve been at MTV a long time, and as it was reinvented over the years and maintained sort of a fluid nature, we never touched our logo, which is sort of ironic,” Exarhos said. “It’s a fantastic, iconic logo, but it wasn’t working for us in a way that we needed it to anymore. It needed to express more about what MTV is today, not what it was in 1981.”

Over the past few years, MTV has come under fire from critics and fans who say the network known for music television no longer played music videos. And while fans can check out artists on sister stations MTV2, MTV Hits and MTV Tr3s, MTV itself has moved on to more reality and, in the upcoming months, scripted programming.

Ditching the longstanding “music television” tag line seems like a signal that the network has accepted where it now stands.

“From a truly design perspective, we didn’t look at losing ‘music television’ for any other reason than from a functionality standpoint,” said Exarhos. “But we realized that it would have an impact if we took that off. I think those who watch MTV today think about it as much broader than music television.

“Music is still at the heart of everything we do, but it’s about a lot more now,” she added. “If MTV didn’t change, we’d be irrelevant.”

Frank Olinsky and his team at Manhattan Design created the MTV logo when the network launched. When the change was announced yesterday, Olinsky wasn’t feeling much nostalgia.

“I had no idea” the change was coming, said Olinsky. “MTV now is a whole other reality than MTV was back in the day. Things change. The fact that it doesn’t say ‘music television’ anymore, that’s appropriate.”

New Snooki SEX TAPE??? Jersey Shore's Snooki Finds a New Boyfriend... Snooki VIDEO...

Snooki Finds a Boyfriend
Saturday February 6, 2010

SnookiSnooki might not have found love (or even a one night stand) at the Jersey Shore, but the unlucky-in-love reality star has finally found a guy to call her own.

Snooki dished to Radar Online that she has a new man who will accompany her to the yet-to-be-decided location of Jersey Shore 2.

“He is actually a body builder and works at the gym,” she gushed. “He is just like my typical guido juicehead with like a good personality.”

We’re so happy that Snooki found the juicehead…err, man of her dreams. And we can’t wait to see this guy she speaks so highly of. “We’re the sexiest couple I have ever seen in my entire life,” she said.

We also hope Snooki’s new boyfriend is cool with the rumors of her sex tape and nude photos. Interesting way to start a relationship.

Editor's Pick #277: Snooki's Grammy Awards Interviews

Snooki blowing everyone a kiss on the Grammy's red carpet

PREVIEW: WATCH Snooki’s interview with Phoenix.

Last Sunday was the Grammy Awards. I know no one watched, but the coolest thing may have happened before the show even started. MTV, which for some reason still bothered to show up even though they rarely show music videos any more, decided to send Jersey Shore star Snooki to the red carpet for some interviews. She talked to Black Eyed Peas, Miley Cyrus, and hit on 15-year-old Justin Bieber (yes, he seemed frightened).  The best interview was when Snooki interviewed Phoenix. Neither party knew who they were talking to, and at one point Snooki actually asked the Frenchmen, “Do you have guidos in France?” This is comedy gold. Good work alienating a really talented band MTV.

Pauly D offered $50,000 to walk a bride down the aisle??

Pauly D has reportedly received a very lucrative offer to take part in a wedding and walk a bride down the aisle.

According to RadarOnline.com, the Jersey Shore star has been offered $50,000 to do so!!

A rep for Pauly D says,

”Someone in California offered us $50,000 to have Pauly D walk them down the aisle at their wedding, to give them away. We rejected the offer, because Pauly is a serious DJ and all the other cast members are doing lots of personal appearances but Pauly D is not necessarily doing the personal appearances because he feels he has a lot to learn as a DJ. He does not want to be doing stuff that is unrelated to DJ-ing.”

Jenny McCarthy: Back to Playboy?

No, you’re not seeing things.

Standing at 5’6” with vital stats of 39-24-34, Jenny McCarthy has been an object of fantasy for millions of young men all over the world over. Her October 1993 centerfold in Playboy when she was 20 years old catapulted the busty blond bombshell to superstardom. She was crowned Playmate of the Year, and soon after started doing hosting work for TV shows on Playboy’s cable channel and MTV. She went on to star in movies, host her own TV talk show, became a mother and authored books. She also does advocacy work, particularly raising funds for autism, and is one of the most famous vegans in the world. Not bad, eh?

She’s a superstar, which is a far cry from her initial dreams of making money from Playboy modeling to pay for college. Through the ’90s, she was one of the most desired women in the world. People thought that getting on in years would slow her down, but it didn’t seem to hinder her work. Even in the current millennium, she still keeps herself scintillatingly hot in her 30s and she continues to do parts in films while still being a mother to her son, Evan.

There are many girls today who still can’t hold a candle to her vibrant sex appeal as she nears 40! Apart from doing movies and TV work, she’s been writing books on parenting and pregnancy.

What keeps her in the showbiz game isn’t simply her looks — true, it’s in large part to her sexy body — but it is also because of her larger-than-life, brash yet down-to-earth simple persona that just continues to grab people’s attention.

Now there’s talk of completing the circle. Amid the news that Hugh Hefner is close to settling down, and rumors of how a trend is arising towards choosing cover girls who aren’t as young as in previous years, interesting speculation has come. The word on the street is that Jenny McCarthy could be set for a return to the cover of Playboy magazine, even after four cover appearances between 1993 and today. Yes, she’s still got it! And there may be an announcement forthcoming!

Or will there?

We took the question to the Predicto Mobile community and we came up with a resounding 76% vote of yes, she will be making an announcement of her return to Playboy come the 10th of March.

Terrible Tans

Tanning is a trend, one of the worst trends. I for one fell prey to the fake n’ bake, but I’m not alone. During parts of my first and second year of university, my friends and I were regulars at the local tanning salon. I tan quite easily, so visiting the tanning salon once a week made me look like I was always fresh off the plane from Barbados, but at least I was never ever even close to the George Hamilton (below).

No, I was likely closer to these ladies. Below are some celebrity tans gone wrong, from left to right, top to bottom: Ashley Tisdale, Tara Reid, Stephanie Pratt, Christina Aguilera, Jessica Simpson, Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Victoria Beckham, and Amanda Bynes.

Tans look hot, there is no denying that you feel a little sexier when you have a little sun-kissed glow going on, and the beauty industry knows this. However, Lindsay Lohan (right) and other celebs brought about the big tanning trend in the past, and now I am starting to see it reappear with influences like the MTV’s hit The Jersey Shore, (but who really takes tips from them?). So, I thought I’d write a few words about why you should steer clear of the tanning bed.

First of all, your health is a major concern. Skin cancer is a growing concern, why expose yourself constantly to this? Its like smoking, if you do it, you’re asking for lung cancer. I’m not saying avoid the sun entirely. I love the sunshine. If I lived in the south I’d be in it all day long everyday. However, you should remember to always wear sunscreen on your face, even on a cloudy day in the dead of winter. Your face is the thing you need to protect from the sun the most as it is the most sensitive.

Secondly, the orange look is not so cute. I learned that on my own, and now when I look back at pictures I sometimes feel embarrassed. However, I don’t feel too badly about it, as I know it was a bit of a trend and I am probably feeling how people older than me must feel about their hair and make-up in the 80s and 90s.

If you are like me, and you feel a bit better when you’re not pasty white, then perhaps you need to find a solution other than the bed of bulbs. I’m not one for faux tanner lotions (mostly because I used the stuff on my legs before a semi-formal in grade nine and didn’t know the rule about washing it off your hands… as you can imagine, not fun), but many celebs swear by it. I would caution though, you should mix your tanner in with another regular lotion, to ensure you don’t have streaks, look orange, or stink.

My solution this year to feeling too white was to go on vacation with my family! :) No, in actuality I was just lucky that I got to go away. I hadn’t been in the bed in so long, and I was really starting to miss my summer tan. I was just lucky I got to go away. Regardless, my tan is almost gone now, and instead of caking bronzer on my face to get the look, I switched to blush! Bronzer when you’re pale isn’t very cute, and can look extremely fake. So, for a natural glow, apply a little blush to the apples of your cheeks, your hairline, your jaw line, and a smidge on your nose and forehead. I always start with my cheeks and then I don’t dip my brush again for the rest of the application, to ensure I don’t get too much colour. I then rub my cheeks a little to even it out. I also tend to stick with a a lighter translucent pink blush for a natural look. Because I have a yellow tinge to my skin (warm), even when I am tanned in the summer time, I always go a bit more orangey (which wasn’t a good look with my former bleach blonde hair), so I’ve learned that I have to steer clear of the bronzers and stick to the blushes. Bronzing when you already have that sort of look will just make you look orange. On the other hand, if you have a pink complexion (cool), you need to go with a bronzer or you’ll end up looking flushed, not sun-kissed!

Skin can have two tones, warm or cool. I have a warmer skin tone, and I tend to go yellowy rather than pink when pale, so just ask your local cosmetician or a make up artist to match you with the appropriate colour of foundation, as well as blush/bronzer. Its very important to match your skin! I recently visited a shoppers and the consultant in the Beauty department was shocked that a wore a darker shade than she did, considering she was much darker than I am. We tried on a bunch and couldn’t find my match in the fairer colours. This is because we have different complexions, and though hers was dark, she has the cooler tone, whereas I have the warmer tone.

Also, here is a link to an In Style beauty tip on how to get the bronzed, luminous look, using Lauren Conrad (right) as a perfect example. The former MTV reality star, turned fashion designer, turned author, always looks fresh and always keeps her glow looking natural.

No one cares if you used to tan, and if anyone holds it against you, well they’re probably just jealous that you can tan (and they are likely pale and would go red, not orange, in a bed). Don’t pretend that its ‘natural.’ Make a change and look for a healthy and more natural way to get the glow, and stars, like Lauren, show that you don’t need to go dark to achieve this. It doesn’t really matter how you choose to keep your skin feeling and looking warm in the cold winter, there are so many options to choose from. But take a tip from others mistakes, and do yourself a favor — avoid the tanning bed!

The Group has won 6 Grammy Awards in their history.

The Group has a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

I love Earth Wind & Fire and have always enjoyed their great music. When I was in Band in Junior High School, we actually played many of their songs. I defy anyone who thinks they are getting old, no matter how many aches and pains you may have, no matter how broken down your body has become, no matter how bad of a day you are having….to hear “Boogie Wonderland” blaring over your radio and NOT start to shake body parts that have not shook in years…..You can’t do it! Listening to EW&F will make you want to start shaking something!….anything!….

Earth Wind & Fire is still out on the road touring, still cranking out all their classics. Among their recent concerts, they played The White House for President and Mrs. Obama in early 2009.
