Tie-dying clothing has been practiced for a long time, and is an staple piece for hippie fashion. However, this style has been adapted into mainstream fashion, on more than just t-shirts. At a recent shoot I styled, I put this model in a tie-dye dress with braided detailing (above). This is such a flattering dress on a variety of body types because its a loose fittingempire waist, with a flattering neckline and colouring. The benefit to tie-dye is that it doesn’t chop up the body with lines like colour blocking does, so virtually anyone can wear it! I’m pictured (right and left) wearing a tie-dye tank while volunteering in Thailand, and a subtle bandeau bra under a tank on a night out in Toronto, showing that you can sport this trend on any occasion!
The celebs below show how you can get the tie-dye look, on everything from scarves to shoes, and wear it anywhere, from strolling around the block or at a red carpet event:
Be hippie chic, like these ladies (from left to right, top to bottom): Ashley Tisdale (tie-dye shorts), Lauren Conrad (dress), Megan Fox (tee), Rihanna (scarf), Lindsay Lohan (jeans), Brittany Snow (blazer), Nicole Richie (dress), Victoria Beckham (pants), Fergie (jeans), Fergie (jeans), Gwen Stefani (jeans), Pamela Anderson (dress), Ashley Tisdale (dress), Hayden Panettiere (dress), Jessica Alba (pants), Rachel Bilson (dress), and Eva Longoria (bikini).
On a side note: Funnily enough, I went to grab a drink from the fridge as I wrote this, and I noticed that I’m wearing a tie-dye Urban Outfitters tee. You write what you are, and you are what you write!
For great tie-dye finds, I suggest American Apparel! Or learn to tie-dye your own pieces by clicking here.
