Kanye West is a Jackass

It has come to my attention that there’s a huge uproar over President Obama calling Kanye West a “jackass” after his disrespectful interjection at the 2009 Video Music Awards this past Sunday.  The majority of the debate is over whether or not news corespondents, like Terry Moran from ABC news, should be allowed to tweet certain things that would otherwise be considered “off the record.”  Journalism’s panties have been put in a bunch during the Twitter age, basically.  Frankly, Twitter is more status updating and opinion based than it is journalism, so I don’t know why people are so hell bent on pointing a dirty finger.  The fact of the matter is, people, especially some journalists, love to start shit, but the President has the same first amendment rights as the rest of us and rest assured, the President is not the only one calling Kanye West a jackass for his inexcusable behavior.  Was it unnecessary for the fact that President Obama called West a “jackass” to be tweeted?  Yes.  Was it untrue gossip?  No.  Should journalists be reprimanded for publishing something that was intended to be “off the record.?”  No.  End of story.  There are  much larger things to be concerned about right now.  Professional, overpaid journalists spending their working hours on social networking sites and Kanye’s poor sportsmanship are low on the priority list.  President Obama knows that.
