To The Daring and Adventurous Networks:
My name is James Myers I have been a police officer for the past 12.5 years in the city of Bridgeport ,Connecticut. Over the years I have come face to face with many horrific and tragic sights. Some that I would never wish anyone to ever have to experience. As a police officer you are trained to go into situations and to resolve problems of all types. Over the past couple years I have taken a high school and college hobby of taking photos of the urban decay and abandoned buildings into a new level.
I expressed my interest to the city of Bridgeport about the many historical buildings in the city.I told them that I would watch over their buildings while exploring the unknown within the walls of each location. The city was happy to hear that there were people that had interest in the preservation of these historical sites. as a police officers I have the duty to protect and serve the community that I represent. This would include the property of the city and the community as a whole. I agreed to monitor the buildings while patrolling the exteriors and interiors of each site. I had to log any damage or unusual happenings in report form for the city.
During this time I was taking hundreds maybe even thousands of photos of these locations. I started to get strange responses online about these photos. People were telling me that they believed I was catching things of the supernatural. I did not know what to think of this , since all I was doing was exploring the urban decay . I started to research the claims these people were telling me , and found that there was a possible link between the images and the paranormal phenomena psychic photographing.
My partner and I were on a prisoner transport to the local hospital. Yes we were babysitting as police officers. I observed an elderly woman being wheeled by me . She looked very familiar , but I could not place the face. Police officers see thousands of people every year, so I was not sure if she was someone we had encountered in a call for service. I then heard the nurse call out the name “Lorraine Warren” I looked at my partner and told her that the woman that was just wheeled by . I told my partner that my grand parents always used to talk about her when I was younger. I had to meet her. I asked the security guard if he would mind introducing me to Lorraine. He took me into her room and she greeted John and before he could introduce me. Lorraine looked at me and said ” Jimmy how are you?” I looked around and then down to my name badge. My name badge only has J Myers on it and there was no one else in there. I was confused.
We started to talk and she told me about her accident. i just wanted to keep her company for a couple minutes until a family member arrived. Lorraine continued to talk to me about all types of subject matter, then the subject of the downtown Poli Palace theater came into play. She told me that she wanted to stop and go in when she saw all the movie trucks outside. I told her that maybe we could work something out to get in there .
We met for a lunch meeting and she wanted to see my photos that i told her about. I was thinking well she is just humoring me as we do when people come to us with police stories. Everyone has a story about a ticket or a certain officer. I thought well everyone probable comes to Lorraine in the same manner , but with their paranormal photos, and stories. I was wrong about her just humoring me , this was the start to my entry into the paranormal real. I did not ask to be in this field , the field has chosen me, why I have no idea.I got a phone call from my mother . She asked me where Lorraine lived, I told her. She told me to ask Lorraine if she knew Kay and Ted. I called Lorraine and asked the question, and Lorraine told me that was her neighbors that she was friendly with before they moved. I called my mother back and she told me with a laugh, That was your great grandparents. I told Lorraine and she could not believe it. She says it is not coincidence , but a synchronicity. This was the same great grand mother that was supposed to be working at the packing plant the day of the 1942 Remington Arms explosion that killed 7 and injured over 80 people.
As time went on we explored the theaters that we spoke about at the hospital. I then was invited to help in investigations with photography work. Lorraine really enjoyed my photos and looked at me as if I belonged there for a reason. Two months went by and I experienced investigation after investigation, but now they had me interviewing people. Not as a paranormal investigator, but a police officer exploring and investigating the unknown. I felt that some of the investigations were turning into para interrogations. I needed to have the truth, even if it was not what the people wanted to hear. Some cases turned into mental health issues, in which we handle a lot of on the police job. There were others that had direct connections with domestic abuse or domestic issues. Some of the cases were people believing the idea that they were experiencing something of the supernatural , when my skeptical police frame of mind would show then that there is a great deal of power of suggestion. This means if someone tells you that a house or person is haunted. They will have a good chance of believing that anything and everything strange and normal is attributed to the supernatural phenomena. In realistic words the power of suggestion can manipulate the brain functions to believe any and all occurrences are attributed to this suggested idea.
These are some of the normal and abnormal incidents that we face in police and paranormal work. The mind is a very powerful thing and people may not know that they are exposed to this power of suggestion until it is pointed out to them. Some understand this power and connect the dots , others do not want to believe that there is nothing paranormal existing in their situation. I believe after talking with hundreds of people about this that there is a direct connection to getting attention focused on this person, for an idea that could only be made up by suggestion.
During these cases I would get upfront with the people, asking sometimes questions that may be awkward, but needed to make a thoroughinvestigation. People when they are face to face with the unknown they reach out for help and answers. I have been on some investigations where I have seen the power of suggestion implemented so bad using sensitives and psychics. I do like to use legit sensitives and psychics , but I have to know that they have no clue what type of case they are going on. This just adds to the credibility. When I work with Lorraine she does not want to know anything before the investigation. She will not tell me anything until I am done taking my photos, then we compare the stories with the home owners to see if their is a commonality to proceed to the next step of the investigation process. That is where we come in.
The media started to pick up on ” Bridgeport Cop also walks the paranormal beat.” Yes I got harassed by some co-workers , some from the public , and the bloggs. I am a police officer trained to have thick skin. people stated “why does the city allow this guy to walk around as a police officer with a gun?” There were others that called me nuts, to me I have been called a lot worst. “The tax payers are paying this guy to ghost hunt?” I a long with my co workers laughed at this . we do the paranormal investigations on our own time , so why does it bother these people?
Time went on and it was like the flood gates were opened. People were emailing me , calling me, and sending me letters. 90% of these people telling me their experiences and asking for help were cops. the same people that were originally laughing at me. I believe that the strength of the mind set of the police office is bravery, honor, big bad asses. The reason they were laughing at first was that they can not be billy bad ass when it comes to something they can not fight or protect themselves against. This was a good sign, when I started to have police officers approaching me to help out on investigations. At first I was hesitant about this , until I saw that they were seriously interested into the paranormal. This is when the concept and title adhered to me as 826 Paranormal ” Looking at the unknown through a cop’s eyes”
I was at a Holiday family gathering speaking with Lorraine Warren, Tony Spera, and Frank Chaffari . The subject was the idea of implementing a team of police officers and emergency service workers into a team to investigate the paranormal. I then was contacted by a person from one of the network. They told me that they were interested in making a reality TV show on the subject matter we were focused on. I not knowing the business had diarrea of the mouth. Three weeks to the day the networks announce that they are going to have the show out of Chicago. was this a coincidence or direct connection. Slap in the face when the person I spoke to was impossible to get in touch with after the idea was put on the table.I was then contacted by a production group out of New York, they wanted to film a pitch or teaser for the idea of a show. I got together some of the best police officers that expressed the interest in coming on board a team setting. The pitch was shot and we had some bites , but the materialwas not in your face. I needed to be there when the pitch was made a long with an attorney. I formed the East Coast Paranormal Police investigation team. This team is made up of Police officers,Swat personnel, firemen, medics, nurses, K-9 search and recovery personnel, retired detectives, and other law enforcement personnel.
Time continuously is opening doors , but the doors are not the right ones. We are currently working with some of the people with one of the networks on this idea, but we are not going to put all our eggs in one basket. I have learned that all good things come within time. The ones that get things easy do not have as much appreciation for what they actually get.
So while I work with the publishing company on my book ,lecture, appear on local TV show, and some of the more popular paranormal shows (Ghost Adventures ,,Remington Arms, Travel Channel) ( A&E Paranormal State Meriden case) I will continue down this path that has been chosen for me . By Ed Warren and My great grandmother that are neighbors once again pushing me in the direction to help the paranormal field..The paranormal reality shows have become a dime a dozen. We will be in your face like no other paranormal show. If you the daring and adventurous production companies and networks reading this article, remember I am a police officer with over 12 years of experience. I am called to face the worst of the worst in todays’ society. Through my training and experience I resolve issues that need solutions. I am not a paranormal investigator, I am a police officer who investigates the unknown of the paranormal field.
